LANDLINE BROADBAND SERVICES
Broadband is now available almost everywhere in the UK – usually anyone who has access to a phone landline can have broadband. Broadband is also available through some cable providers who will provide you with your connection, often bundles with a TV service.
These days some of the speeds available are phenomenally fast – up to 24Mb per second. The quicker the speed, the more likely it is that the service will cost more, so choose a package that suits your needs. Also worth noting is whether there is a limit on how much you can use (IE information you download) – some of the lighter use packages have a limit.
To help you choose the right package for you we have labelled the packages as Light, Medium and Heavy internet usage. Light is adequate for a new and less frequent user who uses the net to read emails and surf the site but not likely to download a lot of music or films. Medium packages are for the frequent user who wants to download music and who spends a lot of time online and even plays online games. Heavy usage is designed for small businesses or internet obsessives who play a lot of online games and may envisage downloading heavy files.
MOBILE BROADBAND SERVICES
You can now access broadband-type speeds at the move with the launch of Mobile broadband services. Effectively you plug a USB 'dongle' into the port of your laptop and you can get access wherever you can pick up a service (this is most of the country.)
Speeds vary on how good the reception is, and though you will experience slower speeds than landline broadband, these services are very useful for those on the move or those that want to use their laptops in a variety of locations.
