British Broadband behind other nations - in 25th Place
The Government is said to be considering a new overhaul for broadband infrastructure so that every UK household would have access to it by 2012. This has been outlined in the “Digital Britain” report.
This comes as welcome news for the country after it recently emerged that Britain sits in a dire position for world broadband requirements – down from last year where it sat at number 15, the UK is now in 25th place.
Research showed that the country was “not ready for tomorrow” and that the country’s broadband network “just meets its citizens’ current broadband needs”.
Other countries like South Korea, Taiwan and Latvia are ahead of the UK.
The research, made by Cisco, was based on how much a country’s broadband infrastructure supported its people combined with the actual service quality.
Overall, it was found that eastern Europe, Scandinavia and the main Asian economies are far better developed than the UK.
Currently, broadband reaches just 71 per cent of UK households.
