How to Protect your PC

Millions of us rely on our PCs for a work and play – and getting one means you need to be prepared to protect it.

There are lots of things you will need to guard your PC against, including hackers, viruses, spyware and countless scams and schemes which are carried out each day across the country.

Install a Firewall

When you sign up with a new broadband package, you will usually be given a free trail of an antivirus system.  Once the free period runs out you may have to spend around £20 a year to update this.

However, there are free alternatives such as the Grisoft AFG which you can download for free.  Microsoft offer free spyware software called Defender which should adequately protect your PC.

Secure your Wireless

This is essential – if you have a wireless (or WiFi) network at home you need to switch on the built-in encryption and rename the network.  Next, switch on the filter so that access is restricted.  This is crucial to stop others from accessing your network.
