The football season has started and for fans, keeping up to date with all the games is all-important.  Specialist sports channel Setanta went bust in June so many have been left trying to gather refunds but more importantly: find a way to watch the action!

Sky Sports are still used by the majority of UK and N Ireland fans and is also highly recommended by most critics.  Sky boasts 92 Premier League games, 30 Scottish Premier League games as well as many others including the UEFA Champions League and international games.

Another option is ESPN.  ESPN, a US broadcaster, took over the rights to 46 Premier League matches in England and to 30 Scottish Premier League games.  It also shows football from many European countries as well as the USA itself.

While Sky is still the most popular with both fans and broadband experts, ESPN is expected to expand and there are some interesting things in the pipeline – it is also cheaper than Sky at around a tenner a month with BT Vision.  BT Vision customers will have automatically received ESPN if they previously received Setanta Sports 1.

Of course, there are other sports to keep up with, in which case Sky still comes out top for the wide range of sports it covers – including rugby and cricket.
